Being Privileged: Got Guilt?

Often times people who come from privilege have a deep sense of guilt. They think that they shouldn’t have problems and shouldn’t feel bad because it “could always be worse”. I often hear people that say they “shouldn’t” feel sad because relative to the bigger problems in the world, it seems their lives should be easy.
However, ultimately, it’s your experience, and it is thus your truth. Comparing yours to others’ pain is actually just another way to avoid feeling your own pain. We all suffer for different reasons due to different experiences. Just because your “bad” isn’t as “bad” as somebody else’s doesn’t mean that it should be disregarded and isn’t worthy of attention.
