What are tips for feeling lonely?

Loneliness is a really difficult thing. Particularly in New York City, there are people all around you, but they are all going going going, and it’s hard to really connect with them. Everyone seems to have friends and things going on and seem to be having a great time, so you don’t necessarily realize how many people are lonely too.
First, it’s important to learn how to take care of yourself properly by soothing, comforting, and tending to the sad feelings that arise. Ultimately, it’s important also to understand that you are not the only one feeling lonely. If you are at home on Tuesday night wishing someone would call, there’s a very good chance that someone you know is also at home on a Tuesday night wishing you would call!
When we realize that we are not the only one, it can give us more of an incentive to reach out to others because we can see that they would appreciate getting love from you just the same as you are waiting and hoping to get love from them.
