Work & Life Balance – Forming Healthy Habits

Work can be very stressful, especially when it comes to balancing your outside life with business commitments. If you feel you are getting way too stressed, then take a step back to think about everything. The following tips can help you re-approach your life in a more balanced way.
1) Take a Break
Working 45 hours a week can be exhausting. Take a break! Even if you just relax on the weekend or sneak off for a coffee break, you need to do something. Sitting around all day staring at a computer is not good for your health or your eyes. Go to the gym over your lunch hour to work up some energy. You will return to work refreshed and ready for anything. If a vacation is long overdue, then take Friday off and head out of town! Everyone deserves some relaxation, especially you, with all of the hard work that you do!
2) Do Not Overload
Do not take on more than you can handle. If you do, then you will become even more stressed out by thing you cannot fully commit to on a regular basis. It is OK to say no to something. If your boss wants you to take on an extra project, but you are already swapped, then offer to share the work load. If you feel the need to take on every commitment that your child wants, you may find yourself double-booked for most of the week. Say no! You may find that it is very refreshing.
3) The Little Things
Enjoy the little things in life. It can be as simple as the sun shining through your office window or a great home-cooked meal. Take the time to relax and remark at what makes life so enjoyable. You will be much happier for it in the long run.
4) Get a Hobby
A hobby is a healthy way to stay connected to yourself. It does not have to be big or grand in any way. As long as it is something that you look forward to each time, you can be a stamp collector, a bike enthusiast or even a surfer. If there is something that you love to do, indulge yourself and do it! You may need to take a little bit of me time every once in a while, and that’s ok! Make it a goal to do your hobby at least once a week. If that is too much, then every other week is fine too. This way, you have something to look forward to, even if you are having the most stressful week of your life.
In conclusion, the secret to a balanced life is being able to sit back every once and a while to enjoy your surroundings. It is not going to kill you take a break- even for five minutes. Indulge yourself in a favorite activity and say no for once in your life! You will be much happier for it!
