Difficult emotions are not fun or enjoyable. They are painful, hurt, are uncomfortable and we don’t like to deal with them. However, they are part of the wholeness that we are and of our human experience. If we don’t address and take care of them properly, then they come out in other ways. Embracing Sadness
People are so attached to positivity and to being happy that they are very scared to let themselves be sad. I try to take care of my sadness like it’s a little kid. I treat my sadness as a little child inside me and I soothe it and let it know that it is okay to be sad. Do I actually accept myself fully or am I avoiding my "stuff"?
When dealing with difficult emotions, it can be confusing to spot the difference between avoidance and acceptance. So if you think of difficult emotions as this little black box of difficult, hurt, pain, feelings, and oftentimes we think that we’re accepting them by distracting ourselves and doing other things, where in essence we’re actually avoiding them and not dealing with them. What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a really key word these day, everybody is talking about it. The way I explain mindfulness is that it is when you get into a moment when you are not stuck in your thoughts. If you start to notice that your mind chatters to you from when you wake up to when you go to bed, you will realize you don’t really have the ability to “turn it off.” This proves that we don’t have control over our mind, it really does what it wants.
