Jasmin Balance Interview – Nate Parker – A Black Man in America: An Authentic Voice

The unbelievably sweet actor and my dear friend, Nate Parker, turned 35 yesterday and his fantastic new film, Beyond the Lights, was just released this past weekend. Those are some pretty incredible reasons to celebrate, but I’d like to add another one to the lovely list.
You probably know Nate for his roles in highly acclaimed movies, alongside some of the most relevant actors in the business, such as The Great Debaters (2007) with Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker, The Secret Life of Bees (2008) with Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson, Red Tails (2012) with Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr., and Non-Stop (2014) with Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore.
With great pleasure, I’d like to share with you an unbelievably inspirational conversation that Hollywood’s next leading man and I had at 6 o’clock one morning, a warm, heart-to-heart talk that was intended to go in one direction, but that truly took an unexpected turn. I can’t get enough of the insight, wisdom and perspective of this soulful superstar, and I am sure that you will feel the same way too.
Watch Nate share the most intimate, the most delicate moments of his life, with the inclusion of growing up with only one parent in a housing project in Norfolk, Virginia, struggling with racism, making his authentic voice heard, and breaking the stereotypes of living, working, and creating as a black man in America.
Thank you for your courage to share your voice sweet Nate Parker.

Jasmin Balance Interview – Austin Stowell – The Journey to Hollywood: What's it really like?

A while back, I had an amazing conversation with an incredible person, a talented, hard-working actor, a dog lover, and good friend. Today, I am so incredibly happy that I can finally share this conversation with all of you.
There is a good chance you know this actor as he has starred in various movies and TV shows… He most recently joined Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr. in Dolphin Tale 1 & 2, and played Jesse in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. So it’s safe to say you’ve seen him on the screen :).
Warm, cheerful, and constantly smiling, Austin Stowell shares his intimate moments and personal stories with openness, warmth and genuine honesty. Expect to hear some pretty amazing anecdotes about his childhood life and the way he entertained his neighbors (hilarious!), his adolescence and first struggles with being judged and left out, his incredible kindness with certain high school classmates, his parallel pursuit of various talents which included going from football practice to choir rehearsal, and so much more.
Austin talks about how watching film and television helped him learn and create his early acting style, and passionately speaks about his initial acting role models and movies and TV shows that truly influenced his life. With deep, intuitive understanding and self-analysis, Austin discusses his life after college, the challenges of his move to California, the astronomical costs on the path to becoming an actor, and provides a ton of other valuable, amazing advice.
To top it all off, he leaves us with some really powerful insight, and a few completely unique words of wisdom.
So go ahead, click Play and enjoy an hour-long, face-to-face interview with this incredible person and talented actor, and his little four-legged buddy named Gus. I promise it will feel like a coffee break with a couple of old friends.
Thank you for opening your heart to us Austin.

A Divorced Man Wrote Epic Marriage Advice

A divorced man wrote epic marriage advice. Hindsight is 20/20… If you believe your relationship is the most important part of your life, make sure you are paying attention to what it takes to keep it.

MARRIAGE ADVICE I WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD:
Obviously, I’m not a relationship expert. But there’s something about my divorce being finalized this week that gives me perspective of things I wish I would have done different… After losing a woman that I loved, and a marriage of almost 16 years, here’s the advice I wish I would have had…
1) Never stop courting. Never stop dating. NEVER EVER take that woman for granted. When you asked her to marry you, you promised to be that man that would OWN HER HEART and to fiercely protect it. This is the most important and sacred treasure you will ever be entrusted with. SHE CHOSE YOU. Never forget that, and NEVER GET LAZY in your love.
2) PROTECT YOUR OWN HEART. Just as you committed to being the protector of her heart, you must guard your own with the same vigilance. Love yourself fully, love the world openly, but there is a special place in your heart where no one must enter except for your wife. Keep that space always ready to receive her and invite her in, and refuse to let anyone or anything else enter there.
3) FALL IN LOVE OVER and OVER and OVER again. You will constantly change. You’re not the same people you were when you got married, and in five years you will not be the same person you are today. Change will come, and in that you have to re-choose each other everyday. SHE DOESN’T HAVE TO STAY WITH YOU, and if you don’t take care of her heart, she may give that heart to someone else or seal you out completely, and you may never be able to get it back. Always fight to win her love just as you did when you were courting her.
